# TaskNotes + mdbase — first cut

## Two ways to connect

TaskNotes + mdbase Hosted: demonstrated with a real collection. Local: browser handoff shown; desktop steps still to record.

A hosted collection, or Markdown on your computer. A captioned walkthrough using disposable test data.

## Before you begin

Start at app.tasknotes.dev TaskNotes asks mdbase for access to your collection. You choose the collection and review the requested access. The screens in this draft use the isolated LAB deployment.

Open TaskNotes and choose a collection through mdbase. Sign in when prompted. This recording starts with an authenticated test account.

## 01 / Choose a hosted collection

Select a collection marked “Hosted by mdbase”, then choose “Review access”. For a new one, expand “Add or connect another collection” → “Create hosted collection”.

## 02 / Review and approve access

Check the app, collection, requested permissions and setup changes. For this new collection, continue with “Set up and allow access” if you agree.

## 03 / Return to TaskNotes

TaskNotes opens the collection after approval. Your tasks live in the selected mdbase collection, not in browser storage.

## 04 / Add a task

Type a task title into “Add to Today”, then press Enter. This is recorded interaction with the real hosted collection.

## 05 / Confirm it was saved

Reload TaskNotes: the new task is still there. The hosted collection accepted the task; an internet connection is required.

## 06 / Choose the local route

In the mdbase collection chooser, expand “Add or connect another collection”. Choose “Use a local folder” to continue in the mdbase desktop app.

## Local setup / Steps still to record

In the mdbase desktop app Connect this computer and add the folder you want to use. Continue the same TaskNotes access request. Review and approve access to that collection. Keep the computer running and reachable.

The browser handoff above is real. Desktop completion is not demonstrated here. The isolated test connector is offline and has no registered folders.
